Posts: 3 (10/28/02 21:34:09) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None From what I see with the Giant Cockroach: The bite damage should be: 1d6+7 NOT 1d6+5 Atk +8 base melee, +7 base ranged; +8 (1d6+7, Bite) STR 21, DEX 18, CON 16, INT --, WIS 10, CHA 2. Am I wrong here? I also looked at the Maggot and shouldn't it's damage be 1d3-2 because of it's -2 STR bonus? Am I incorrect here? I am still kinda new at this game.. Please guide me

This is where I get the +7 vs. +5 the Maggot, well it's STR modifier is so horrible, but yet, it does not affect it's damage.. Is this a VILE rule I'm not aware of? Thanks in advance! Dorpond

They seem tougher than their current CR. Also, for what it's worth, cockroaches eat by vomitting on their potential food. For effect, I had my giant cockroaches do a bite followed by the vomit (damage the same). It made them more vile. --gary

Posts: 8 (11/04/02 12:22:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hmm, ive used tis bug in my last game. i agree with the vomit thing, and also applied at that game the half-immunity to critical (50% ignore crit and sneak attacks). One doubt... does the 1d6 str damage works every round? Ive just used it in the first round... If you use the flying and half-crit immunitiy and this vomit all togheter, pals, increase the cr by + 1 its my advice... 1d4 acid damage i think its good. And no, the base cr is not incorrect, my 1st level party defeated one of the cockroaches with regular prowess, but theyve got luck

This means the victims become nauseated? And more, i would apply the str damage each round or what? and i think seriously that cockroaches should have acid damage in their bites (1d4 maybe)... and that partial immunity to criticals would be good too... maybe a costumized cockroach (flying one, not-flying, etc)

Posts: 1 (07/29/03 13:17:36) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I don't know how old this thread is - it came up in a search (I'm just passing through)- but as an entomology nerd (gamer too, but haven't gotten into RPG's yet) I just have to point out that cockroaches do not vomit on their food or secrete acid from anywhere. Only certain flies (not even all flies) eat this way. Some cockroaches do, however, unleash a defensive stink when upset. It's enough to make some people gag, so I'd imagine it being almost fatally intense from a giant one. Also they can still after being decapitated or cut in half, only dying of thirst/starvation. Insects do have actual, very advanced brains though, so this loss kinda zombifies them. It's a backup central nervous system that allows the body to continue functioning (it is thought that the purpose of this is to give them more chances to reproduce before they die) I think they're beautiful animals, though. Only 16 of the 3,000 species are actually capable of becoming pests in human homes, they actually do not carry any diseases, and while they can eat anything most do not actively seek out carrion or dung and feed primarily on fresh fruits and plants. There are a few predatory species, though, and some species can only be found in the dens of large predators where they feed on droppings and scraps of meat. I had a silly idea once when I was younger for giant cockroaches that lived this way in the nests of dragons and suchlike. I'm such a dweeb.

Posts: 1 (10/14/07 00:24:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I realize I'm bringing back a very old thread, but I was just wondering where I could find the full stat block for the Giant Cockroach (and the other beasties that didn't make it into the BoVD). I remember seeing them way back when the Book of Vile Darkness came out, but a lot has changed to Monte's site since then, and I wanted to use them in my new "Blood Dominion" campaign. I know I could substitute stats from some similar vermin and just call it a cockroach, but I was hoping for the original bug. Thanks in advance to anyone who could direct me to the info.
