24) I dunno if this is too philosophical for this thread, but: Okay, so you've statted how drugs work in D&D. Why didn't you include alcohol?

6. Yes. 7. Should be 1/day/class level, I think. 8. Yes. The ability to see invisible naturally I think is very strong. 9. Yes. 10. Yes. Monte

11. It sticks as vile subdual damage. It still requires magical healing.
12. Yes it is, no they can't. 13. Split the remainder. 14. I would think so. 15. In theory, although that's wicked mean. Remember that ray of enfeeblement doesn't do real damage, though. It's just a temporary affect (so that shouldn't be made vile). 16. No, only magical healing. I'd say that undead and objects treat vile damage normally. (Good question.) Monte

25) Is the soul eater's energy drain permanent? If so, whats' the save DC (if any) to avoid losing a level permanently 24 hours later?
We run into a what?!?!?!?
Do you KNOW the CR on that thing?!??!? |

17. It means that if a DM wants, a low level somewhat character (who chooses evil) might not register to the power as a born-into-it, inherent evil creature might. It's a suggestion that it's not just level that should play into that. It's playing fast and loose with the rules, though.
18. Yes, he's immune to cold. That text, even though it's not technically where it should be, should be considered rules text. 19. Should be medium. For some reason, someone changed the AC. 20. Temporary. 21. No, they should be just like normal metamagic feats. I guess someone block copied some text onto them thinking that they were the ones that affected spell-like abilities (for which you do have to specify the ability). Monte

Im reposting my question from earlier in the thread with a number infront of it, incase that was the reason it wasnt answered earlier.
30) Monte, I was hoping that this issue would be covered in the BoVD but it was not. Perhaps you could shed some light on the subject (even if it is not an "offical" wotc answer). I seem to recall that in older editions of D&D, once fiends (perhaps any sort of outsider) where slain on the prime material plane, it didnt really kill them but sent them back to their homeplane, where they would be forced to reside for x amount of years. It would take a holy sword or a Paladin to kill them on the prime material, or a quest to kill them on their home plane in order to kill them permenantly. My question is, is this still the default assumption? If not, how do you run this in your campaigns? |

31) If a character who had (say) 10 points of vile damage died and was raised or ressurrected, would they still be wounded? (I'm inclined to say 'yes'.)
31a) If they were r/r'ed on consecrated ground, however, they'd be healed as normal for the spell? 31b) If a character is therefore killed completely by vile damage (a difficult task!), they could only be r/r'ed on hallowed/consecrated ground, right? (because otherwise the damage would just kill them again) I just inflicted my first vile damage (from a violated melf's acid arrow) last night. The player (my wife!) doesn't know it yet since she hasn't been healed - she knows something is wrong/different but hasn't found out what yet. Heh. I may be sleeping on the couch after next session. Confusion in section on Drugs
|
32) Page 41-43. A "low addiction" drug is given as generically doing 1d3 Dex damage on Table 3-4. However, in the notes to the same table, under Satiation, an example is given using Devilweed - low addiction - and citing 1d2 Wisdom damage.
There is no damage listing on Table 3-4 that is 1d2 Wisdom. What is correct? |

Drugs: Cut & Paste error from LoD
|
Valvorik, checking in Lords of Darkness I noticed that with the previous drug rules, a Low addiction drug did 1d2 Wis damage rather than 1d3 Dex. The example was cut & pasted from that book with the name of the drug changed but nothing else.
(I also notice that the BoVD table is much nastier than the LoD table in terms of the ability damage inflicted.) |

33. Is the use of Dark Speech a supernatural or extraordinary ability? Can it be spoken in an antimagic field, and if so would it have any effect? What if the speaker were just outside an antimagic field, speaking to someone within it?

34) How does anyone ever get to advance as a Diabolist when one of the pre-requisites is the ability to cast shriveling, which means the caster must have the soul rot disease? Or am I reading the intention completely wrong, and the spell just has to be on the would-be Diabolist's list?
35) Why is the Demonologist way more snacky than the Diabolist? It doesn't seem very balanced. |

36) How exactly does a Cleric prepare a corrupt spell? There is a process for a Wizard to add spells to their spell lists, but not for Clerics. As you need the spells on your list to prepare, how does a Cleric get them? I do not assume they are meant to be addedd to a Clerics spell list.
37) It also says that any spellcaster can cast a corrupt spell from a scroll or item as if it were on their spell list, does this include spellcasters such as Rangers, Paladins and the like? 3 39) Is there some form of CR for The Calling? Or does the cost of whatever item you give them pay for the spell activation power in itself. Would the cost of the item given to the monster equal the NPC cost? And should this in itself raise the CR? 40) Graz'zt has two different Fast Healing values 3 and 5. 41) The Lingering Evil affects, are they supposed to affect NPCs only? A PC that witnesses such evil is immune to these changes, right? 42) The Consume Likeness spell says that the spell allows the caster to change into the subjects appearence, including equipment! I think this is a hangover line from alter self. Am I to assume the spell works like as that spell, usable at will? Is the ability to have one alternate form really worth 2d6 permenent Wisdom drain? 43) What is the average H.P. of the children in the Dread Emperor's chains? If we assume they are 1st level commoner children, then they would have around half the average of 4 H.P. which is about 2? A retrieved 2nd level spell is nice, but not as good as a 9th. 44) I assume the maximum Gold Piece price that a Demon possessing a sword could give would be 26,000. That is, 13 HD for a Balor or Pit Fiend. It says that a demon that possesses a weapon can enhance it, but that it does not become magical. Does this mean that it's extra enhancement would not affect DR of a monster? What about if it was added to a magic weapon? Would only that weapons original enhancement count? What about in an anti-magic field? Would the fiend still be able to use its enhancements, and could it still hide its nature? 44 A ) Could the Imprison Possessor spell be used to trap a fiend in a sword permanently? It says creature only as the target, does this mean the actual possessor or the host? A demonic weapon with no chance of possessing the host is a great idea for a tempting magic item. 44 B ) Can a Fiend possessing a weapon change what it's enhancement is? Or does it choose once per possession. phew! Sorry for so many questions, this thing just hit Oz. EDIT: I fixed some questions that I had overlooked the answers to, and added one that needed to be renumbered. |

22. One dose. Permanent just means that the liquid pain can be dispelled.
23. You assume correctly. Your solution is OK. The other way to do it is to just say it only goes to 9. 24. Alcohol, realistically, doesn't work the way these (mostly fantasy) drugs work. Basically, the recovery time needs to be much quicker, and there is an accumulative factor involved in the effects. You can drink yourself to unconsciousness and recover fully the next day. 25. As permanent as any energy drain. DC should be 10 + class level + Cha bonus. 26. Yes. Why? I don't think I understand what I'm supposed to be explaining. The prices are appropriate to their affects. Further, the prices for some things needed to be small enough so as not to throw off the treasure of monsters. 27. Yes. 28. Huh? Oh right, the "special" thing. Not sure why that was added, but it's a mistake. 29. Basically, yes. 30. No. As described in the PH under Conjuration, creatures that are summoned are not physically there, so if you "kill" them they "return" to their plane. Creatures that are called, or travel under their own power and direction to a new plane, are physically there and can be killed like anything else. Same with a creature on its own plane. 31. Unless he was resurrected in a church, I'd say yes too. And to b as well. 32. The table. I'm tired and have a bad cold. I'm going to bed now. Monte

Hi
I Just got the Book of Vile Darkness and really like the book. 47) I have a question about the spell Dance Of Ruin. Is this spell supposed to effect the caster as well as everyone else in the area of effect? Some discussions have been going on about it here pub58.ezboard.com/fokayyo...1939.topic Anyway if you could please shed some light on the topic and perhaps what your idea for the spell was when you were creating it. Thanks. |
