Well, I don't know where your coming from so I couldn't give optimal directions. You can use something like www.mapquest.com, though. Their address is:

I guess I'm the only one who lives in Manhattan or even NYC--here's the main place--Compleat Strategist
www.thecompleatstrategist.com/ They carry a wide selection of eq and can order just about anything else. Another good place is Neutral Ground www.neutralground.net/Stores/NYC/Home.asp They don't actually charge anything to use their gaming tables (in spite of what their webbie has), which is nice. |

Good store with a great manager who I game with. Ask for Phil Ward he will help you out. He's played D&D since the 70's. He's like as "old school" as you can get. Plus they have good comics and gaming area too.

The Game Castle in Fullerton, CA has a terrific selection (you can still find Phoenix Command stuff there!)
And Gamer's Realm in West Windsor NJ is also great (and has a second location somewhere in the state). Steven Palmer Peterson

I'll give a nod to Jolly Roger Games here in Nashville, TN.
Good store, friendly people, great atmosphere. Wish there were more stores like it. "Yikes! That thing does how much damage??!!??"

In the Chicago area, the best one I've found is Games Plus, in Mount Prospect (just northwest of O'Hare). It's got a massive selection of RPGs and miniatures (including a ton of out-of-print stuff), as well as board games and wargames. The staff is very knowledgeable, and they've got a large gaming room where you can find all sorts of games being run.
Back when I was going to school at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Pegasus Games was a great store, as well. I think they've moved locations several times since I left town in the late '80s, but I believe they're still around, and still under the same ownership. |

When I lived in Champaign, I used to go to go to Bear Productions alot. Great selection of both wargames and roleplaying games and most especially used games. Six Foot Gnome, glad to hear they still exist in some form; I had driven by while in town and noticed their absence.
In Indianapolis, I like Board Room Games. Large selection of everything from darts to hardcore wargames, including used games. www.boardroomgames.com/ |

The old store i used to buy my materials from a few years back was Pheonix Rising in ST. Catharines, Ontario. Now they have diverted away from D&D so i have become more accustom to a store called
Games-A-Lot in the Sea-Way Mall (Welland Ontario) They are a great supporter of Rollplaying but focus there products on 3rd edition D&D and have been so for some years now. At least 5 that i know of. They are also a supplyer of all types of puzzles, models and younger aged games or toys. The business is florishiing and will do so in the future. Check it out if you can. ~Fuzzy~ |

when theres only one store in town, its the best store!
Whats a crying shame about that is the fact that the town is a city of about 1.2 million (Dublin, Ireland) and there is just the one store. Its called Subcity, and the RPG section only makes up about 10-20% of a pretty small shop - the rest being comics =0( Back when I started gaming, about 15 or 16 years ago, there were 3 or 4 stockists of RPGs, but I guess those shops didn't feel there was the market to support them all |

Around Syracuse "Altered States" is great.
In Rochester, Crazy Egor's used to be awesome. Now that Paul has retired tho, the new owner (now Millenium Games) is awful. Boldo's is good tho. www.boldo.com/ -The Hag

Well. When in the Minneapolis/St Paul area I would suggest The Source in Falcon Heights, or, if you're a hard core mini's person, Dreamers in St Louis Park.
When I went to the Univesity of Oklahoma the best place in Norman, OK was Planet Comics. Great Store, Great people. The manager Bart would actually call me when new stuff came in. Also, everytime I go to Madison WI I stop at Pegusus Games. Great friendly folk |

PA Stores | |||
|
It's been a while, but when I lived in State College, PA (Think Penn State Univ) Nittany Line Hobbies was a decent place for D&D material, even though it was a train/model store.
Sadly enough, now that I'm in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA...I have found almost NOTHING worth mentioning. Which is why I'm in the process of opening my own store. If you're in the area, The Game Studio in Nanticoke does just about everything BUT d20, and Phoenix Comix on main street in Wilkes-Barre has all but got out of selling anything outside of PHBs and DMGs. |

I've been shopping at The Sword of the Phoenix for 22 years. Though they have moved around a couple of times in those years, they have always been the best gaming shop in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
They have always stocked the latest games, even things that weren't popular. Boardgames, Card Games, Strategy Games, Miniatures... and of course, RPGS... Check'em out Sword of the Phoenix 4060 Peachtree Road Atlanta, GA. 30319 (404)231-4244 www.swordofthephoenix.com/core.asp Sometimes it's better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness. -- (Terry Pratchett, Men at Arms) |

I'll second Beyond Comics. I had a friend living in Medford who took me in there and got me back into gaming two years ago... I loved that place.
My hometown game shop ... Dark Horse Games in Boise Idaho. The owner does a great job getting people involved in different types of games... He constantly has strategy games going in the store and usually he's playing. He's enthusastic about his trade and keeps those around him enthusasitic. |

In Great Britain | |||

Dunno about other stores, but in my experience the best is 'The Games Shop' in Aldershot, Hants. Its the retail outlet of Esdevium Games and has been going for 20 years or so ... Vince (the manager) is the most helpful bloke I've ever spoken to in any shop of any sort. If you ever come to Great Britain go there, I'd be VERY surprised if you regretted it. |

Re: Great Game Stores | |||

I would like to second the nomination of "The Griffin" in downtown South Bend, Indiana. They have a great selection of gaming materials and the owners are pretty cool as well. And of course they have a fantastic selection of Malhavoc Press materials. (Had to get that in there) The best thing about the store is that it is on my way home from work. (Somehow, not all of my paycheck seems to make it home.)
By the way, if anyone knows, is "Wargames West" in Albuquerque, NM still open? I started playing there 20 years ago, and just am just curious. You always have a soft spot for the store where you started (at least I do). |
