One thing as I read the BW module that doesnt make a lot of sense to me is the whole Pactlord/Kalerecent/Manor story.
The PC's are supposed to intercept the drow-monk avatar of chaos and make the link that he comes from the manor. In this same platform, the paladin Kalerecent also finds out about the manor, and investigates, uncovers the Pactlords and closes the door, sealing some of them inside.
I was thinking of making a few changes, as I really dislike the idea of the paladin waiting in limbo for the party to come. (too much like a NWN game for me).
I was thinking of altering the story in the following way. My party has just stopped the avatar of chaos and ended the session right there. They were level 5, and are close enough to level 6 that I may just give them level 6.... taking a couple days to train, be interrogated by the guards, and then be approached by the inverted pyramid and the church, who is apparently looking for their missing hero paladin.
If the party takes 3-4 days to train and finish the interrogations, Kalerecent will have time to actually investigate the digging sounds (and/or the events that transpired with the avatar of chaos) and the church will actually have time to notice he is gone, and probably be able to summarize an idea where he may have run off to. (one of my party members is a paladin of Lothian so it will be a easy stretch to have him want to find the paladin.) Further, the Inverted pyramid will have had time to assess the recent events, do a legend lore spell on the body of the avatar of chaos and figure out that he is from the banewarrens, perhaps even a bane himself.
Another thing that I have noticed is the large amount of traps within the warrens, and the Pactlords lacking a rogue with which to actually navigate these traps. They also lack healing (aside from potions) to deal with said traps. I am thinking about introducing a new bane that the pactlords have uncovered in their quest for the grail.
This artifact appears to be some sort of mechanical device used for torture. Its purpose is to transfer life force from one person (victim) to another. In this case, the Pactlords have been using it on the captured Kalerecent to heal themselves. In this regard, the PC's could free Kalerecent from his capture, get some information from him on the events leading up to the closed door, and I can incapacitate the paladin enough to where the party doesnt want to rely on him to be an additional damage sponge. Perhaps the device has driven him mad, or stripped him of his capacity to participate. This will also hopefully embark upon the PC's the type of people they are dealing with.
I'm more or less throwing out ideas, the story and time-line just doesn't really make sense as it is written, (maybe I am misunderstanding it or missing something?)
