Inspired by contraserrene's beholder topic, I began producing my own using white
floral foam balls, doll eyes, pipe cleaners, hot glue, plumber's caulk and paint. I was happy with the originals but it wasn't long before I started
producing the Gen II's, and then I went a little overboard with it.
Here are the Gauths with a puny human for comparison. Looking on lovingly (?) over her spawn is a huge beholder I call "Big Momma".
These are three of my Gen II's. Distinguishing them from the Gen I's are their rocky hide (made with a wood-burning tool on the floral foam, the fumes are toxic so that had to be done with plenty of ventilation) and the drool made by putting a dot of hot glue on a toothpick and putting it behind the teeth and pulling it out as the glue cooled.
Two beholders with Big Momma. Big Momma is a 1.5" sphere with 16 eyestalks. She's on a huge base and while she has a yellow central eye, she loves (eats?) all her green and yellow-eyed spawn equally.
The Beholder Class Picture. Gauths in front, Big Momma in back, 12 Gen II beholders forming this years graduating class. With my Gen I's included, I can field about 30 beholders. (In the background, you can see my unruly frost giants at the after party for their photo shoot.)
These guys aren't really beholders, but when I played DOOM and DOOM II, I always called them beholders. Two cacodaemons, which are just beholders with horns carved off cheap dinosaur toys rather than eyestalks.
