"If I get an overwhelming response, I'll try to get more made . . ."
Any hopes of this same idea ever getting applied to the epic Ptolus campaign guide that seems impossible to come by?

If you can figure out how to get a few hundred Ptoluses printed as cheaply as a few hundred shirts, yes.

Zing!
Have you thought about having these shirts show up a treasures in Dungeon A Day - the player finds them, and then the DM can hand out the actual shirt to the player in question... Just a thought... Rory, who laughed out loud when he saw the first shirt on Thrommels Blog... |

Doh! Well, it was worth a try. One can dream, can't they? I couldn't get a copy back when they were first available as I was a poor history graduate
student, but now that the fates have seen fit to give me a teaching job, I have some expendable cash. I saw a copy on eBay last week, but the bidding war got
rather extreme. I'll keep my fingers crossed that printing costs plummet or some rich benefactor opts to front Monte a large chunk of money specifically
for this purpose.

So what if a bunch of people signed up for a pre-order, and you set a limit, if that many people pre-order, you print?

At Gencon I saw three shrinkwrapped Ptoluses (Ptoli?). They were being used in some sort of in booth contest to see who could hold them straight out the
longest. I didn't stick around to see what the winner got, but they are out there.

That number would have to be at least a few thousand. Doesn't seem very likely. |

I've gotten a rep as somewhat of a Monte fanboy in my gaming group; so I was pleased, but not terribly surprised, that friends brought Monte's
"d20 reroll" shirt back from Gencon for me.
Would it be possible to make Ptolus available on Lulu? I don't know what work or limitations would be involved with that. Has anyone looked at the cost of pdf printing and binding at Kinkos? Of course that wouldn't quite be the same, but may be the remaining option for those who missed out and want a printed version for their games. |

Ptolus would cost about $400 on Lulu, and wouldn't have all the bells and whistles (bookmarks, poster map, embossed cover).
Seriously, guys, I've explored the various options to get Ptolus back into print. I'd do it if I could find a way that makes sense. The problems: POD printing can't handle a book like this well. I'd have to be able to print (and, of course, sell) thousands again to make it cost effective, even at the $120 price. While I see there is some demand for it, I don't know that there's THAT much demand. |

Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and
a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really... Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances? Mary: Not good. Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred? Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million. [pause] Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!* |

I was actually just thinking about this the other night. It seems like, if Ptolus EVER goes back into print, my guess is that it will be because another
company has gotten the rights to bring it into a new (or different) edition. It will probably be a ways in the future, will possibly forward the timeline some,
and will probably be broken into multiple books.
Just a guess. Right now, I'd probably recommend Amazon over E-bay. There isn't always a good price there (though they have a worn copy right now for $200), but at least when you see a price you know it isn't going to explode ten minutes before the bidding ends. |

There is nothing the say that it has to be the whole book right? I mean, a gazeteer is better than nothing. A campaign book is even better. Sure, it won't
have the big books comprehensiveness, but it won't have the price tag either, which should make it way more mainstream. And most of the work is done. Take
all the adventures out of it. Just leave setting details.
I have the original Ptolus, so I'm more than happy. But another setting would be awesome.
