The initial idea was to replace the need for paper by setting up a netbook for each player with a chat program to eliminate note passing and players having to leave the room to have private conversations and an excel version of their character sheet. Each netbook has restricted access to particular D&D reference sites such as the SRD, Crystal Keep, etc.
The character sheet evolved into one that did self calculations. And it further evolved to autopopulate information based on classes, prestige classes, and so on.
And it kept evolving, it's nearly 100% completed, 2 of my players are playtesting it and have been assisting me in working out all the bugs and kinks.
I'm hoping to possibly get more people to playtest the sheet and see what other bug or features some of my fellow players think should be added.
Below are the following features that exist:
-Classes are chosen via drop down box, BAB, saves, class/crossclass skills are automatically selected based on your selection. As well as spells, etc. Basically everything you'd see on a class progression table is automatically filled in.
-Support for up to 4 classes are available for multiclassing.
-Encumberance autocalculates changes to speed and max dex bonus.
-Armor check penalties, arcane spell failure, max dex limits from armor are also applied automatically.
-With the press of a button you gain all the benefits of 8 hours of rest, including healing of damage, and wiping clean of used spells/day, etc.
-A dropdown box for each Craft and Profession is available to choose from a ridiculously long list of options.
-Carrying limits are autocalculated.
-Save DCs, and anything else involving spells, automatically calculated.
-A built in database of every feat from every D&D book published (At least I think) allows you to simply type in the name of your feats and it will automatically pull the description for you.
-Same applies for spells. Spells not only include a description, but also the exact details of the spells, along with components, targets, range, etc.
-You can change weather or not a skill is a class skill or cross class skill in the event you have a feat or racial trait that grants you a skill that usually wouldn't be available to you.
-Max ranks are automatically resolved based on weather or not a skill is a class skill.
-The passive effects of all classes from all books (and hopefully soon all prestige classes) are automatically calculated. Your invintory notifies you when you're meeting certain carrying capacities, and also tracks your wealth for you.
-Experience is tracked for you, and also informs you when you've leveled.
-When you've exceeded your spells/day, you're notified.
-Separate pages for animal companions.
-Non passive class features all have their own menu.
-All conditions have their affects instantly calculated by simply choosing which effect you're currently under.
There's plenty more, but I can't even begin to think of everything.
So what features do you feel are a necessity in a digital character sheet?
Likewise would anyone possibly be interested in playtesting the sheet?
