anti-scrying items? |

Spells, items, whatnot? What do you have, what do you recommend? WotC books only please. I know about the ones in Malhavoc Press books and those
aren't allowed in the campaign. Thanks!

As for the Core Rules books, these are the ones I know of:
Spells: Nondetection, of course, but also Antimagic Field, Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser Globe of Invulnerability, and the Blue & Indigo colors of the Prismatic Wall & Prismatic Sphere spells. These all should work against scrying, each with its own limitations (Nondetection can be overcome with a caster level check, Globe of Invulnerability only works vs 4th-level or lower spells, etc). Obscure Object also protects from scrying, but only affects objects. Spell Immunity & Greater Spell Immunity should also work against spells such as Scrying, since its SR entry says "SR: Yes", so it applies. Screen & Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum also protect anything within their confines from scrying. Detect Scrying won't prevent you from being scried, but you will at least be aware of that and thus able to act accordingly. The same can be achieved by anyone with an Intelligence score of 12 or higher who succeeds at a DC 20 Intelligence check. Some scrying spells and effects, such as Clairaudience/Clairvoyance, only work on the same plane as the caster. These can be foiled by spells and items that create extradimensional pockets, such as Rope Trick or Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion, as well as those that take you to another plane of existence (Ethereal Jaunt or Plane Shift, for instance). Also, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance cannot penetrate magical darkness, so Deeper Darkness and such can effectively protect you from it (but possibly not from other scrying spells and items). As for items, the only one in the SRD I can recall (apart from obvious ones such as Wands, Staffs and Scrolls) is the Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location, which is basically a continuous Nondetection effect cast at 8th caster level. Outside the SRD, the only spell I can think of right now is Scry Trap, a 5th-level spell from the Magic of Eberron campaign sourcebook that not only protected you from being scried but also dealt massive damage upon the creator of the scrying effect. Very funny. |

Oooh, Scry Trap. Cool. Thanks. I will check that out. The lack of protective magics against scrying is particularly annoying when the DM has the evil bad guys
doing the scry/teleport/ambush thing against the party. There's a dearth of items. It's annoying.

My pleasure.
About the teleporting ambush thing, a great counter to it are the Anticipate Teleportation (3rd level) and Greater Anticipate Teleportation (6th) spells from the Spell Compendium. They both last for 24 hours, during which time they warn you of any impeding teleportation near you as well as give you some degree of insight as to what kind of critters are coming, and delay the teleport just enough to make sure that you are ready to welcome them adequately. And, since Anticipate Teleportation is only 3rd level, for just 3000 gp you can purchase a Lesser Rod of Extend Metamagic to increase its duration to 48 hours so that you only need to cast it once every 2 days.

Yet another reason to get Spell Compendium. In fact, the DM used anticipate teleport against us first.

Mindblank.
The only thing that defeats mindblank is the psionic power, metacognition, I believe.
