Posts: 205 (05/26/09 13:47:37) Spending some time Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I am having a slight disagreement with a few members of the wizards forums about +1 caster level and PRC that refer to other Classes I was told that You can not use MT as a preexisting spell casting class for determining spells per level of the Geomancer. and I will be willing to agree if they could give me a good reason for it http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1160191 just trying to figure out if I am completely of base on my opinion that spell casting Prc's stack when it comes to spells per day etc... ~NIV~

Bards, Clerics, Druids, Rangers, Paladins, Sorcerers, and Wizards all have Spells as a class ability, as do prestige classes with their own spell progression like Assassin. Thus, Mystic Theurge is not a spellcasting class. It helps you cast spells by adding caster level and spells per day, but it is not in and of itself a spellcasting class. It doesn't have spells per day. It gives a bonus...but that's to some other class. But the bonuses stack. If you're wiz 4/cleric 4/MT 1, you cast spells as a wizard 5 and cleric 5. If you're a wiz 4/cleric 4/MT 6, you cast spells as a wizard 10, cleric 10. The bonuses from each MT level are untyped, so, yes, they DO stack.

I think the point of contention is that he is trying to use Geomancer's "+1 level of existing spellcasting class" to gain a level of Mystic Theurge's "+1 arcane/+1 divine" progression. But Mystic Theurge is not a spellcasting class. It does not have Spells as a class ability. However, if we grant that Mystic Theurge is a spellcasting class, and that Geomancer is a spellcasting class, then you can use your level in Geomancer to gain a level of Mystic Theurge. You then apply either of the Theurge's level bumps to Geomancer and the other to another existing class. You then apply the new Geomancer level to Mystic Theurge and rinse and repeat for infinite spellcasting. Final Words, before the battle with Demogorgon: My life does not matter. The idea of an infinate spell caster levels is interesting but it was not what i was trying to get at but the fact that there are only 10 levels in poth PRCs make that less than inffinate ~NIV~

A clr 5/wiz 5/MT 3/Geo 1 who puts geomancer's +1 level into wizard casts as a Clr 8/Wiz 9. From what I have read, you are trying to apply the Geomancer +1 progression to Mystic Theurge. This does not work because Mystic Theurge does not have Spells as a class feature and is thus not a spellcasting class. Ergo, you cannot use Geomancer to advance your Mystic Theurge and thereby gain one level of cleric and one level of wizard spellcasting (or sorcerer and mystic). Seems like a waste to me. Your scenerio: ------------------------------------------------------------ So my char reaches level 11, 5 clr/5 wiz takes 1 MT applying +1 to wiz and +1 to clr for his 12th level he takes 1 geo applying it to MT, applying +1 to Wiz +1 to Geo, geo gains +1 which is applied to MT, which is applied to +1 wiz and +1 geo, geo gains +1 which is applied to MT... ------------------------------------------------------------ It doesn't make sense, it isn't balanced and it's against the rules as stated before. Even if it wasn't against the rules your DM would be stupid to allow it.
