Tonight, I'm planning tomorrow game session. As usual, I'm waiting until the last minute.

Right now I'm listening to the Blue Angels buzzing our office as they practice for this weekend's air show, and I'm spinning my wheels and killing
time waiting for 4:30 to arrive so I can call it quits for another week.
Kaladhan, I'd probably be doing some more pre-planning also, but I was so starved for work this week that I'm actually about five to six game sessions ahead at this point. (For those following my RttToEE campaign journal, I'm 100% ready for the hobgoblin fight at the ruined temple, Rastor, and maps A, B, L and K of the CRM. [/shamelessplug]) :P |

I just signed the contract on our house. I'm a homeowner now! Woo!

Writing an article querry for Kobold Quarterly in which I'm trying to describe a character. "...a crotchety but matronly old woman; picture a swearing
beer-drinking chain-smoking grandmother who can flay a man's skin off with her tongue. Now picture her with elf ears, a +7 weapon, and ten Eldritch Knight
levels."
My girlfriend is away for the week so I have a quiet house to myself. I also have a lot of planning to do for summer games, but I want to get this sent first. If you're stumped for a first adventure, is it a good idea to write "a Silmarillion for your setting" (a brief description of all the major events in the settings history) to flesh out the world, or am I just sidetracking myself again? I'm also drinking some coffee with three spoonfulls of instant cocoa mix and a broken up Mint Three Muskiteers bar ("fun"-sized) in it. So, basically a mint mocha. Is tasty! |

Yes, yes you are side-tracking yourself. If you want to write an adventure, do this:
1. Draw a circle. 2. Write the name of a McGuffin in it. (the jewels of parnaith, the sword in the stone, the axe of the dwarvish lairds, etc.) 3. Draw an "X" through the circle. On the top two arms of the "X", write two factions who want the McGuffin. (Knights of the Pale, the Drake of the Lake, the Lord of the Dance, etc.) On the bottom two arms (Follow them from the respective factions, through the McGuffin, to thier lowest extremities) write what they want to do with the McGuffin. (Take it to Isengard, throw it back into the lake, wield it, hatch it, hide it, put it in a stew...). 4. Draw a vertical line through the circle, between the arms of the "X" Write "PC's" at the top. Write the hook (what they're going to do with the McGuffin) at the bottom. (Rescue her, close it, open it, destroy it, sell it, use it to kill a dragon, etc.) There's the structure of your adventure. All the details will fall into place around this. It could work for a campaign as well (just add more lines through the circle.) Good luck!

I'm idly browsing different thread here while mentally visualizing what kinds of cool rooms and encouters I can set up using my Dungeon Tiles (the WotC
ones). If you buy multiples of each set you can really go berserk with these things. The new Arcane Towers version finally has a round room and curving
hallways.
Now, if they would just do more corners and diagonals. |

I'm dying.
This is the fifth straight day I've attempted to correctly build this PDF so that I can merge data into it from a webform. For no reason that I can determine, some/most fields just don't work. They worked before, in the original pdf. They don't work in the new PDF I was sent. They don't work when I delete the fields and recreate them, sometimes. Sometimes that fixes them! I think it has to do with allowing the field to exist as a certain name, and then changing it later. It seems like the fields work if I create them and immediately give them the correct name. So, I'm laboriously recreating the fields in small batches and verifying that they work after each step. Not only is this a slow process, but it's made even *slower* by the fact that Nitro PDF feeds the file pie the entire time I'm messing with it, so that after doing relatively small changes my 500k file balloons to 15M. Once it's on the server I can compress it back down with no harm done, but in the meantime that's time I'm wasting on file transfers. This entire project is now 7 days overdue. It was given to me the afternoon before the deadline. Life is pain. Edit: on the plus side, my tooth pain is finally going away. Back on Tuesday I got *so* mad at Internet Explorer that I severely bruised my gums due to teeth grinding (this is not the first time IE has caused me to inflict painful injuries on myself). I'm down to only 2 tylenol during the day (probably not necessary, but makes me comfy) and 2 at night to make sure I can sleep. I can *almost* chew solid foods on that side of my mouth. Woo!

For the record: UTM is officially Too Old to play kickball for 3-4 hours with a clan's worth of kids. It was a whole lotta fun Saturday evening, but
I'm still paying the price today. :P

So, it appears that life is no longer a cruel joke existing only to inflict suffering on me. I finally figured out what was wrong (it was two separate issues
that produced the same effects, which made it difficult to troubleshoot as I was looking for a *single* wrong thing tying everything together), and got the
entire PDF working. Woo!
Now i've just got to go through the app and change the handful of things that I had to alter to fix the issues with the PDF, and we're home clear.
