I know that bonuses to, say armor class, don't stack with bonuses of the same type. (morale, dodge, shield, deflection, etc.) But with different +1 bonuses for attack and damage leaves room for interpretation.

I've played soulknives in oodles of campaigns, and would like to know if the class ability that enhances the mindblade to +x would stack with the bonus +x
of being an ascetic. If so, I know this would max out at +5 at 14th level (+3 from the class and +2 from the vow) If they don't stack, it'd obviously
be +3. The reason I'd consider this, metagaming aside, would be that the starting campaign would be ECL 10, and not progress more than two levels.

I don't have the book in front of me, but as I recall they're both enhancement bonuses. So no, I don't think they would.
On the other hand, there's an Eberron feat that lets you create a mindshield and transfer plusses from your knife to it. So you could create a +3 mindshield and a +2 mindblade. |

If they are "sacred" bonuses, you're all set.

The mindshield feat was also in Dragon Magazine 341. But thanks for the reply.

I would rule they don't stack, no matter what the wording or bonus types involved. VoP is intended to provide roughly the same level of power as the other
PCs are gaining from their gear. Insofar as weapons go, the soulknife already has that.
And one comment on another board is, they are both enhancement bonuses...which is what I would expect anyway. If it's anything but an enhancement bonus, then GMW comes into play. |

In a vein similar to the Mindshield Feat, my DM ruled that the enhancement bonuses don't stack, however I could use the Defending weapon special ability to assign the bonus from one source to AC, while keeping the enhancement bonus from the other source as normal. The DM also agreed that I could assign both enhancement bonuses entierly to AC, which is nice if you are plagued by nasty things with touch attacks. Compared to the Mindshield option, this lets you keep a 2h, or dual-wield, and saves you a feat, but uses up a +1 of special ability on the weapon. |
