I started with Basic D&D (blue box), but quickly moved onto AD&D. How about you? Note: I didn't include 1.5 (Unearthed Arcana), 2.5 (Option books), or 3.5 (revised 3e) as choices. Also, there were certainly differences between the editions of BECMI, but I put them together since their overall text remained about the same. What version of D&D you play first? (Result) Dungeons and Dragons, original set (OD&D) Basic D&D or Rules Compendium (any edition, also called BECMI) Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, first edition (1e) Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, second edition (2e) Dungeons and Dragons, third edition (3e) Dungeons and Dragons, fourth edition (4e)

So I quickly started playing 2nd edition and oD&D rules compendium with two different campaigns. I started with the red boxed D&D and the rules compendium, but I never played 1st edition.

(I remember that giant crab. Don't know why.) It was about '78 or '79 (3rd grade at any rate). First module was B1. I moved to AD&D in 1981, as part of a convention. I had the DMG first, then the Player's Handbook. I must have spent a year with just the AD&D DMG, trying to reconcile the OD&D and AD&D rules - what were druid spells and who, exactly, got them? Isn't that Basic D&D? Or rather, wasn't the Blue Box simply renamed "Basic" on the second printing/edition? OD&D are the original softcover "pamphlet" style books. _______________________ bored with changing signatures
