We've gone heavy on non-stop, no-breathing-room, back-to-back adventure in my Banewarrens/Night of Dissolution campaign. The group was once making its
way up to the Noble Quarter and were stopped as a procession of the Commissar passed the opposite way, and he nodded at them. Other than that, it's been go
here, go there, do this, kill that ...
Well, four of six broke level nine during the battle with the denizens of the Black Manor. The other two aren't too far behind (one, Nox the Dwarf Rogue,
came in as a new character a level behind. The other, Swan, the Urban Ranger, became a Runechild and as such took a several thousand point "Experience
Point Debt" she "paid off").
Itis time I break open that Brick and find out what it means to be Level 9 ... "You are somebody", it says (paraphrasing). They upset a Thrall of
Orcus and a Ghast that was running a fence/stolen import/illicit items/slave trade beneath a Wooden Antiquities Shoppe. The saved a bedroom full of orphans,
each with a prodigious musical gift, from a hungry, teleporting Troll. They rooted out the Chaos Cults' takeover of an Apartment House, where dwellers were
being turned into Venom-shaped Thralls. The Barbarian, Gert, sold a cache of rare weapons to Lord Dorant Khatru, who gave him the gift of a "Writ of Free
Passage", whereby if Gert was stopped in the City because of his Nall heritage, Khatru vouches for his good character. Barbarians en route, you know
*wink*. Recently they also unmasked a heretic Priest (Heth Neferul) from the Clerisy of Lothian.
It is nigh time they get some recognition.
Menon Balacazar fits in so well. They eliminated a "pretender" to his crime business. Swan is a runechild, like his missing ... grandson ? (need a
refresher). Luvec, an Unfettered party member (the player had to quit, so Luvec remains in the background) is hunting for Menon's missing black book (and
we know where there paths will next cross ! *cough* the machine *cough*).
They might be summoned before the council of twelve to debrief them on (1) The Pactlords and (2) The Banewarrens. Rather like being called up to brief a
congressional commitee, I suppose.
I really want to run them through the Jewels of Parnaith, but I feel I won't be able to do it justice. But, BY GUM there's so much more (the Shadow
Tower) I want to run.
I was thinking that when they return from the Quann - either via the Coatl or the Gate - they may be shunted to Raul's Chamber, to receive the sphere (or
Orery - again, a refresher is needed). Since Xavnan Serpenthelm (the Thrall of Orcus) covorted with undead (er - while he lived), this could be an interesting
encounter. Dagger looks from Raul's mistress.
When they ... if they ... stop the Final Ritual, they will receive even more noteriety.
So, while I need to go and re-read Monte's journals, any other cool drop-ins you can offer up would be appreciated. The City is going to build them a house
on the land they inherited from their party member (Vixer, Priest/Monk) that fought a Time-elemental like being that whisked him over a hundred years into the
past, where he lived out the rest of his days. It is a small, overgrown, stone-walled plot in Rivergate.
