I fully understand the desire to say, "I'm not a Joss Whedon (or Frank Miller, or Eddie Murphy, or Madonna, or Stephen Spielberg, or even Monte Cook
for that matter) fan boy", Hollywood and it's subentertainment step children LOVE to tear people down who are successful so they can build them back
up later (often pretending they've only just arrived on the scene. Case in point: Anthony Hopkins). So, while I am not a Whedon (nor Miller, nor Murphy,
etc.) defender NO.MATTER.WHAT person, I am also not an, "I won't like it 'cause it's hip" either.
~Wiz (Trusting that this won't turn this thread into a rant/flamewar.) I enjoyed the third one most. I'd rather be watching Firefly season 7, I suppose, but Dollhouse is still looking better than at least half the shows I've seen that are on TV now. Somehow, the show reminds me of Miller's mid-80s Daredevil, but I'm not sure why. |

I'll totally back Wiz on this. We can also see this in gaming: this tendency to dismiss anything someone else says because "you're a [insert
RPG/Author/Company name] fanboy".
I think that's a ridiculous argument. It doesn't even deserve that name, really. There is indeed a difference between being a fan of something or someone's work and totally dismiss any critical mind as far as said thing/works are concerned.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of the dismissive use of the term "fanboy" either. It almost seems like one of those derrogatory terms that those
labeled with it can decide to embrace.
For example, while I'm not a huge fan of Joss Whedon, but I am a JJ Abrams fanboy. Or for that matter an Ed Brubaker fanboy. Or a Grant Morrison fanboy. And others. Being a fan of someone simply means that you recognize that not everything out there is the same. There's good and bad. High quality and low. And it has a lot to do with the author/creator/director of whatever it is. (And ultimately, not a lot to do with the network, the studio, the publisher, etc.) If being a fanboy just means that you pay attention to who produced something, then hell yes I'm a fanboy. |

cof cof you know, it was supposed to be a joke :P
I just found it funny... still I would be watching the 1st episode in the night I have seen enough series of Josh Wedon to know he can bring cool things... and he can go lame as the next person, no one is perfect... and actually Iwill be watching it for Eliza Dusku not him :P so I don't critizice people for watching it... just found Pennyarcade smartass comment fun.

I think we all thought it was funny, too. We're just reacting to other comments elsewhere, on a variety of topics.

Oh, yeah, it's funny. Not direct reaction to it. Think of it as a pre-emptive gut thing. For example, I poke fun at Miller-Never-Wrongers one the one
hand and defend his work on the other as much as I think it requires/deserves defending.
On another board/a different topic someone mentioned someone whose work I don't care for is doing a new project. I posted that I had reservations. Then people came in and directly attacked not only the someone but the nice young lady who started the thread. I had no choice but to back up a bit and say I'd give it a chance (even though I really don't want to), because here's someone who LIKES something and stated why vs. the "TEH.SUCK" we-don't-need-to-explain-it crowd. |

Same thing here, Aer! Your post was funny- my comment wasn't directed at you. Cheers!

...my players tease me that I am a Monte cook fanboy...I denied it until they asked what books I was using for my current campaign (BOXM)...
I still have to check out Dollhouse. Time is such an issue. I barely have time to catch BSG episodes...

Definitely gotten better as it went on. Still not blown away, however. Attempts at humor in episode 5 were a little flat.

I am going to keep watching but the only characters I care about are Boyd and Agent Ballard.
Though I do hope that DeWitt is a doll. That would be cool.

*keeps forgetting it is on*
Wifey and I have for 3 weeks in a row realized halfway through the show that it was on. First 2 episodes were....eh.....maybe. Eliza Dushku is a plus. Must watch other episodes to see. (And support, because most shows get better with time...and then, you slowly wish they'd go away.... ) -8 modifier to crunch-fu |

You can watch it on Hulu.com if you miss it on TV.

Saw Safecracker and Religious last night. First was very entertaining, the second pretty good. They're doing interesting things with the assignments rather
than just "sex toy". I'm a bit surprised at how quickly they've developed the outside plots. We've now got interesting, active stories
with Alpha, Ballard, Dominic, Victor which means the show is doomed in my mind: It's either going to be canceled before those get resolved satisfactorily
or it's going to drag on much too long like most TV shows tend to do. I'll cross my fingers and hope for the sweet spot.

I just finished watching last Friday's episode (5th or 6th espisode).
I have to say, while the first few episodes were marginal, these last few of been great. The one I watched tonight was just flat out fantastic and really advanced the plot. |
