I really wanted to like it, but just didn't. I think the problem is, the main character, Echo literally does not have a personality. It very hard to empathize with a character without personality. There was also a vague feeling of "hasn't someone already done a show like this", even though I couldn't think of one off the top of my head. I have the 2nd episode on DVR, I'll give the series about 3 episode before I pull the plug.

According to reports, FOX made Whedon rewrite/redo the first few or several episodes. Let's remember this is the channel that canceled Firefly. ;) The second episode is better. Still not what I expected, but I'm giving it a few more episodes too.

If we support Dollhouse strongly enough, then maybe Firefly will get another chance. That's the secret plan... The second episode seemed vaguely like a d20 Modern single player adventure. I could definitely see the game potential. I thought the second episode was better than the first. Much less reliance on (apparent) coincidence and more of the patented Whedon "This isn't what you thought it was..." Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I'm a big Whedon fan, and I was quite disappointed in the first episode. I'm gonna give it several episodes before I give up, but my favorite part of Joss's work is how he weaves humor into everything, so even scenarios that should be dramatic to the point of overwhelming melodrama (see half of BtVS, and more than a few Angel eps) have a great mix of humor. Prolly my favorite example of this is the Fear Demon episode of Buffy. At least in the first ep, Dollhouse had none of that, and much like DoctorEvil, the premise feels like its been done before, even though I don't think it really has. I just watched the frist two episodes on DVR yesterday and I enjoyed them both, but that said, I had already heard alot of negative reviews so that may have tempered my opinion since I was not expecting much. I think it will probably get better. I will give it a chance, but I can certainly understand if someone doesn't want to wait around for that.

I heard just recently about all the drama when this was being filmed. As for the finished product, I don't think it's all that good. Too messy, too convoluted. My wife wanted to see how the first episode ended, but I tuned out about 40 min into the show and goofed around on my daughter's Nintendo DS until it was over. Neither of us watched it last Friday.

It actually did worse than Dollhouse. 1.6 of 5 (Dollhouse was about 2.1)? Ouch! Is there any good TV out there? Even Legend of the Seeker had a stupid clips show this week. I didn't know that was allowed after only 10 or so episodes.

After the execs saw his pilot, their reaction was pretty typical. "What? This isn't the series you said you were going to make! Where is the sex? Where are the motorcycle chases? Why is there so much talking?" So, he immediately shot a new pilot that started with her as a richboy's sextoy and opened with a five minute motorcycle chase followed by some disco dancing...

Basically, it boils down to this: "Alpha," one of the first dolls, managed to retain fragments of personalities and eventually went on a killing spree at HQ, though for some reason Echo (Dushku) was spared. He's supposedly been dealt with, though. In a totally unrelated aspect of the show (cough cough), someone "outside" is trying to kill Echo, or at least she's being observed and toyed with. And she herself starts exhibiting behavior that she maintains aspects of personalities. Then there's The FBI Guy whose name I can't remember who's trying to prove that the Dollhouse actually exists, when everyone around him thinks it's basically an urban myth. ~ R. Jhen

I just hope the damage hasn't already been done. Its still not as good as Firefly, though I suspect it'll get to be as good, just in time for them to cancel it. Such is my luck with series.

Will depend on how he held up in his despair of repeating the same actions and expecting a different result.

I thought the mystery of the kidnapping was well done; the complication from the past life an interesting twist; and some interesting threads begun (the naked guy, the FBI guy). The morality was laid on kinda thick and obvious - wish they'd let that stew a bit. I'm hoping that the "sex toy for the rich" angle has been disposed of with the intro and Echo will continue to take on interesting parts rather than delving into prurient interests each week. Not great but I certainly didn't hate it.
