I was asked today what's the difference between a recession and a depression.

An old joke goes: You're in a recession when your neighbors get laid off. You're in a depression when you're laid off too.

Unfortunately, even at companies that made profits last year, the executives are scared because our politicians (of both parties) are hyping doom and gloom. I know a number of companies who did just fine last year and if the hype had never gotten out of control (by both political parties), they wouldn't have imposed raise freezes, pay cuts and surgical terminations. [/political rant] But hey, it looks like those of us with jobs will be getting that 32.5 cent per hour spendulus bonus (at the future cost of a $Trillion in debt) sometime in July that will somehow save millions of jobs. *boggled* Instead of an 1,00 page bill, my solution would have been to bring in Publisher's Clearinghouse to give out $100,000 awards to 100,000 US citizens that had to be spent in one month on select items (stuff made in the USA, home improvements, etc)... now that would have stimulated the economy.
