Jobs are being slashed everywhere due to the economy.

The perception by executives is that things aren't getting better so watch out for some big name mass layoffs on Jan 2, 2009.

Well, technically most layoffs happen on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (this is textbook MBA Human Resources 601 that people accept being terminated better earlier in the week, but opinions vary).

However in my post above, I meant to say "watch out for some big name mass layoffs BEGINNING on Jan 2, 2009."

There are a lot of warning signs pointing to a spike in layoffs that I could go on and on about (mideast violence, upcoming spike in oil prices (watch for $60/barrel soon) reduced number of VISA/MC transactions, reduced holiday spending, small businesses closing up shop, billboards with no advertisement, prices falling everywhere to generate sales, uncontrollable government spending, Madoff's multi billion dollar scheme, etc)... however we'll see soon enough. This is one time I don't mind if I'm wrong, but the warning signs have been everywhere, just like they were with the sub-prime market collapse two years ago.

Higher prices across the board are not necessarily in our near future, unless high inflation kicks in.

Just saw that consumer confidence is the lowest on record.

Strangely enough, watch the dollar rise against the Euro. I'm not an economist, but from what I understand, Europe is going to get this far worse than the states due to the Euro being pegged against Eastern European currency.

Bottom line is watch for the Euro to be worth about a dollar in 2009.... which is very good news for anyone wanting to buy Otherworld's minis, assuming he can stay in business and we have spending cash from a job...
