Okay - further to my feats & magic items thread - how about an item that functions as one of those house rule feats, allowing a character to add multi
classes to their class abilities; eg. a totem animal amulet that enables a litorian totem warrior to add his racial levels to the power of his totem companion?

depends on how specific it is. I think in the case of the racial levels, it should be pretty low, since there are just not that many racial levels to add. I
might even go down to 1 or 2k

1K was my first bid - before I edited - but that made it a complete nobrainer (which would you rather have, a +1 cloak of resistance or that kind of amulet?).
However, I think I could just as easily be persuaded to let it be a power ritual.

A power ritual is a much cooler approach for this case...it's like sharing the power of the race (as expressed by the racial levels) with your companion.

Make it an amount that by the book would mean a significant expenditure depending on the PC's level. Say, all of the treasure from one encounter of the
PC's level (so if it's an 8th-level PC, make him pay 3500 gp)

complete inside joke that only Sibharek will get, if I had not plagerized this I would be yelling trademark. I would say 700 gp, (1000 gp ( as he said +1 armor/shield, cloak of resitance) -30% class specific effect).
