I'm running a campaign where the PCs have had little time to rest. Not a problem for the fighter-types, but the psion is getting low on power points. Is there a way to regain them that doesn't involve magic items, like a psionic power or something that lets you drain something (another PCs spell levels, abilities, etc.) to regain power points? Make the world a better place; slap someone who needs it.

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Yes, there is a power that does this: power leech. You drain 1d6 pp per round from a target, and gain 1. Really, I would just contrive some house rule to allow the psion to regain power points per hour of rest. How about a feat: Psionic Rejuvenation [Psionic] Prerequisites: concentration 8 ranks, psicraft 8 ranks, Wis 13+, Psionic Meditation, Manifester Level 1 Benefit: Regaining power points is different for you than for most psionic classes. Replace the standard method of regaining power points with this method: Divide your maximum number of power points (after bonuses from feats, ability scores, and items) by 24 (rounded down). When you have 1 hour of complete rest (either asleep or in meditation), you regain this number of power points. If you rest for a full 24 hours, you regain your normal maximum power points. This feat does not grant any ability to avoid sleep or rest for other reasons. If you have more than one psionic class which grants power points, each hour replenishes all psionic power point pools. In essence, the PC can recover small amounts of pp easily, but would take a long time to fully recover. "Running out of stuff" is why things like the Book of Nine Swords were developed. Running out of stuff just isn't fun, even if it balances otherwise powerful abilities. _______________________ bored with changing signatures

I'll allow it to drain spells or spell-like abilities as well (as long as the spell-like ability isn't at will). For a drain of 1d6 spell levels that the target has available for casting the psion can regain 1 power point. I'll also create a spell called mana leech that essentially does the same thing for spontaneous arcane and divine spellcasters, allowing the caster to decide what level and number of spell slots they get back when the spell ends. I don't see a way for PCs that memorize spells to gain any benefit, though. Make the world a better place; slap someone who needs it.

If you memorize spells then you get to recharge a spell(s) that you mem'd but have already cast. Similar to a pearl of power. However I fail to see how that is the answer. Power leech costs 7pp, and if you use the power at 7th level, and are able to maintain it for 7 rounds (big if), then you merely break even. Even if the power was free (0pp), it would still take you out of one combat and only give you one or two "blasts" back for the next combat. It would take several combats of inactivity to get a substantive amount back (and that's if it cost 0pp to use). I think we need to know more about the campaign and why this psion is never allowed to rest, before we can really come up with the best solution. Though I do have a couple of ideas rolling around my head. 1. Give the psion something like a [Reserve] feat. An ability that is 50-75% as effective as their good/best offensive abilitie(s). Either make it cheap to use or free. 2. This one is more involved. Cut their max Power Points in half. This half sized pool works exactly like normal. That's the easy part. Next, when the psion enters combat he receives an amount of Temporary PP equal to half his max (IOW, 1/4 his original max). If not spent these tempPP fade away when combat ends. So for example if the psion had 100pp he would now only have 50 at full. However he gets 25 temporary PP when he enters combat.

Long story short, they're in a castle looking for the BBEG and have a short timetable to kill him before his undead army returns. Give the psion something like a [Reserve] feat. I really like those for wizards and sorcerers. I suppose as long as they had a minimum number of power points available equal to the spell level in the feat and a similar power to the spell requirement it wouldn't cause too great of a problem. Make the world a better place; slap someone who needs it.

Sure, assuming combat lasts for 10 rounds, and still it takes you completely out of that combat for a net gain of 3pp. I suppose you could capture an enemy caster/psion and then drain them for what it's worth... but still it's a fairly inefficient way to go. I also find it weird that in such a case you're better off rolling low on the d6 to avoid running them out as you only get back 1pp per round anyway. Long story short, they're in a castle looking for the BBEG and have a short timetable to kill him before his undead army returns. Okay, but how long is that story arc going to last? Assuming this happens over a single day, then I'm not sure if you need to do anything. Sure it may suck being dragged around with little to contribute as you're out of resources... but that's simply how it goes sometimes. How about a Power Leech [Reserve] feat? Prerequisites: ability to manifest the Power Leech psionic power. Benefit: As a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity, you can focus on a target and drain power points. The target is allowed a will save, and if successful is immune to this ability for 24 hours. The target is drained of 1 power point which is added to your reserve if you are currently below 1/2 your maximum reserve. The drain can be continued round after round which requires the same full-round action, however the target is not allowed additional will saves against a continual use of this feat. This feat will not bring a user above 1/2 their maximum reserve though it can be used to drain off a targets power points. When manifesting the Power Leech power normally your manifestor level is increased by 2 when determining duration and range. Additionally concentrating to maintain the Power Leech power requires only a standard action as normal for maintaining concentration on a spell or power. Normal: Maintaining concentration on the Power Leech power requires a full-round action.

True, but capturing a caster is the easiest and most efficient way to do it. Okay, but how long is that story arc going to last? Assuming this happens over a single day, then I'm not sure if you need to do anything. Sure it may suck being dragged around with little to contribute as you're out of resources... but that's simply how it goes sometimes. It will go on until he's down to around a dozen of his nearly 200 power points and they're forced to rest. Fortunately the mind flayers they'll fight next will have an unused mindfeeder weapon and a headband of intellect to help keep him going. Make the world a better place; slap someone who needs it.

When augmenting a power like ( Light Beam ) you can augment the ability, for every 1 pp augmented, the light beam does an additional 1d6 damage. Is there a limit for how many points an Adler can use to augment? Or can I just throw 75 pp into the ability and do 75d6 damage?

Some abilities, powers, and feats allow this cap to go up a few levels. _______________________ bored with changing signatures
