Another wants to play a mouse barbarian. Aside from the amusing personal problems the two would have, the question is: The cat will have average stats everywhere but Str (+1d3 Cha from awakening, and 3d6 int), which is OK as long as he doesn't want to be an Egoist, but the mouse(rat stats) will just suck with her -8 racial strength mod and 2+1d3 cha. Even the 2 bonus HD won't really help. How do I create a balanced mouse? Geriatric Jerry is all of Creation, all of Creation, Creation, Boo

Though maybe it should be an awakened dire mouse....use dire rat stats , then it will have avg str, high dex and con, avg int, high wis, low cha plus scent and disease. Just a thought . An awakened dire mouse and a psionic cat. Is this Tom & Jerry or Felix the Cat here? But, in a weak attempt to be helpful, you could boost the cute furry mouse's mental stats at say +2 each and grant a bonus feat. Evade Trap? Provolone Power Cleave? Twitch Whisker? Man, I'm sorry, I can't help myself. I just emptied a dead mouse out of a trap and I'm punchy from little sleep.

Scent plus average Str as a Small creature plus +6 Dex plus 40ft speed/20ft climb plus 2 extra HD are pretty powerful. On the other hand, 1d4 damage would suck for a melee type. What if I made it Tiny? That'd give -4 Str. I probably could reduce the speed to 30/15. Dex would still be +8, but since armor would be obnoxious to find that might be a good idea. You can help the mouse out by making his background original... different. Say he's not just a "normal" mouse. There are AT LEAST two options: 1) he/she was formerly another creature: human, elf, dragon, --you name it-- that was polymorphed into a mouse (so this would explain intelligence and some stats/feats perhaps; and 2) he/she is a normal mouse that lived in the tower of a powerful sorcerer/wizard/whatever, and one day the sorcerer summoned GREAT magical energies... TOO great, and died in a catastrophe, the mouse --looking for eats and treats-- stumbled into the remains of all sorts of broken bottles that once contained magic potions which were all mixed together. Smelling something unusual and enticing, the mouse drank of the potions... Now this leaves just about ANY possibility open for the mouse. --Can you imagine a firebreathing mouse with ESP and giant strength? --and somehow via the chaotic mixing of these potions, these effects are permanent? Okay, that's off the deep end, BUT... that situation would explain almost anything you want to attribute to the mouse bring him up to the cat's level. I didn't mention much about the cat because cats are simply elegant as they are, for the most part. However, if you use the "Tom and Jerry" theme and make them BOTH residents of this dead wizard's tower, then some truly interesting things can happen. Your campaign idea is VERY original. Haha, you might even want to bring some kind of avian into the fray, like a rooster paladin, sparrow bard or rogue chicken. I'm personally partial to the sparrow bard, but there's just something about a rogue chicken that pecks at me. Chai

I figure a spiked chain small enough for the mousie should have reach of 5 (rather than 10). If he gets improved trip, well... That'll be interesting. Very interesting. Suggest to the mouse player of having his name be "Muso." I'm not sure what language, but it means "mouse" (probably latin -- musophobia is fear of mice)
