We spent the first part of the evening creating characters.
Alaric, Dwarven Cleric of Erathis
Argen, Dragonborn Warlord
Andrea, Halfling Rogue
Marcus Aureus, Human Fighter
Balken, Tiefling Warlock (Infernal pact)
Kildrak, Dwarf Cleric of Moradin
Character creation took a while as there were only 3 PHBs and 5 players. Fortunately, one of the players was somewhat familiar with 4E and another had played it before. I was pleased to note that this was the most balanced starting mix of character we had in at least two campaigns. One of the part time players didn't attend the session, so another character will be added later. In addition, my "guest player" didn't attend, so there may be a seventh character added, but as he's adamantly opposed to 4th edition, he may not play in this campaign.
Character background information will be added as I receive it.
Alaric, Dwarven Cleric of Erathis
Argen, Dragonborn Warlord
Argen hatched eighteen years ago, one of two sons of the Iceheart clanchief. The Iceheart clan was known its staunch courage, conservative nature, and cold
justice. While many other Dragonborn tribes abandoned their draconic masters, the Icehearts' remained loyal to their silver dragon lords and their
heritage. Among other dragonborn tribes, the Icehearts were sometimes referred to as the "silver shields" in reverence of their battle prowess.
Argen was always weak. His brother, Aurron, was first to hatch. Argen had to be broken free from his egg. Aurron quickly became the favored son of the
clanchief. As the first born, strongest and brightest of the two, it became clear Aurron would take his father's mantle as leader of the Icehearts. Argen
lagged behind him, jealous and ignored. Argen loved his brother, but he also came to resent Aurron's unflagging superiority. In time, Argen hoped, he
would be able to leave his brother's shadow and strike out on his own in the wide world. But it was not to be.
After the Witch-Queen began her assault on dragonborn domains, the Iceheart clan was commanded to slow her attack to allow the residents of a city to escape.
The silver shields succeeded, but took heavy losses. Among their dead was the clanchief and Aurron. As the only successor to the line, the lesser son was
made leader.
The duties and responsibilities of the position wore heavily on Argen, as did the grief of the loss of his father and twin. He was reminded daily by his
servitors what choices his father or brother might have made in his place- as though he were unfit to make his own decisions! As though he did not deserve
the right to lead! The resentment, anger, and hopelessness of his position built up- and in three years time, he resolved to leave his home and people. At
the age of fifteen, he began his self imposed exile to find a life of freedom.
In Argen's absence, several family heads attempted to assert their control over the clan. The Iceheart clan fractured, and many of their members have
since scattered to locations across Kamidia.
In the three intervening years, Argen travelled the lands, avoiding the encroaching undead invasion and doing odd work where he could. He is currently at
Bramblevale Keep, looking for odd jobs on the outskirts of the end of the world.
Andrea, Halfling Rogue
Nicknamed "Cuddles" by Kildrak the dwarf.
Marcus Aureus, Human Fighter
Marcus was born in Velzna, the capital city of Etrunia. His father was a soldier in the Etrunian army, while his mother served as a priestess in one of the
cities largest temples. Marcus was raised among a diversity of people, and so has learned to associate with many cultures and viewpoints. However, he
understood the critical importance of military prowess, as did most Etrunians. He studied the art of the fighter when he was old enough, but he eschewed the
use of a shield. Marcus knew that challenging his opponents with heavy blades was the best way to keep their attention away from his allies. Foolhardy, yes,
but Marcus relished the attention he received in his battle drills at the academy. While not overly proud, he cannot resist bragging about his battle scars
to comely ladies.
Balken, Tiefling Warlock (Infernal pact)
Balken is originally from Etrunia and was orphaned at a young age. Left to fend for himself in a society that isn't always welcoming of tieflings,
Balken turned to a life of petty crime to survive. At the age of 20, he was approached by the leader of an assassin's guild who admired Balken for both
his street smarts and combat abilities. It was in the guild that Balken studied not only to be an assassin but began to study the arcane abilities of a
warlock. With only himself to look after, Balken became an effective and cold-hearted assassin who rapidly gained a reputation for ruthlessly carrying out
his assignments. This all changed when he fell in love with the target of his last assignment-an elven woman, Tyrania, who was a politician who served on the
council of Raven's Forest. For the first time in his life, Balken found himself having feelings for another individual. He refused to carry out his
orders and tried to escape Raven's Forest with Tyrania. The leader of the assassin's guild learned of Balken's betrayal and the two lovers were
quickly found. Balken fought valiantly to save Tyrania but was hopelessly outnumbered. Tyrania was killed in the battle and Balken was badly injured and
left for dead. After recovering from his wounds and mourning the loss of Tyrania, Balken decided he needed to atone for his past crimes. Tyrania's love
had shown him that there was good in the world. He now leads a nomadic life-style as an adventure seeking fortune by honest means and seeking quests with
other adventurers. While Balken is no longer of the evil alignment, he is currently unaligned with increasing leanings to good. If the assassin's guild
that he worked for ever learns that Balken is alive, he would be a marked man.
Kildrak, Dwarf Cleric of Moradin
Nicknamed "Stinky" by Andrea the halfling.
