Hey, it's been quite a while since we've heard anything at all on Iron Heroes Next. Is it still under development with plans for a release, or has it been put in storage?
I've got a massive fan revision that's 100% OGL about 95% done, and is in a playable state. Updated feats, classes, skills, magic system, combat, equipment. At this point, it just needs a few more spells written and quite a bit of balancing done. I've been working on it on and off for about 3 years. Originally, I wasn't really planning on releasing it, but I'm rethinking that. If IH 2 is still eventually coming out, it might affect my decision.
Short List:
Replaced magic system: New magic system uses 3.x spells, sorted into 24 groups by theme. 3.x spells have had the worst game breakers weeded out(teleport, wish, etc). Casters get several groups, making for very thematic casters. And the system is mana based instead of spell slot based.
Classes: All classes have been worked on, from minor revisions for executioner and berserker, to complete rewrites for hunter, armiger, and everything in between for the other classes.
Equipment: The equipment tables have been rewritten, rebalanced, and retuned. Weapon/Armor templates also make an appearance. Armor is still DR.
Feats: Weak feats have been integrated together, while many of the stronger feats have been toned down. Feats scale with level where applicable.
Skills: Several of the skills have been rewritten, as well as the system.
Combat: Updated to use some of the better ideas from Pathfinder/Trailblazer, including combat reactions, combat maneuver bonus, and combat maneuver defense.
