Looking for a plethora of characters of various levels to populate and adventure in Ptolus - let me know if you are interested, I want to have about 4 or 5
groups running thru the city, with the actions of each impacting the present of all. If it takes off enough, I might want to have a couple other DMs to help
out, as well.

How is it being played? PBEM, PBP, Virtual Tabletop, IM, IRC?

Play by Post - I would love to find a virtual tabletop I could use, but I am nervous to pay for one and not have a group to run.

MapTool is the better choice, but can be a bit of a memory hog. Open is quite buggy and can be a real pain to install, even for those who are very computer
literate. I'd definitely suggest Maptool, personally.

I'll 2nd half of what Aegir said - Open is buggy. That said, when you figure out where the bugs are you can still find yourself with a stable tabletop, and
it does a whole mess of neat things. I mean really, having a character sheet that autorolls your stuff ALONE is worth it, and accepting PCGen exports makes
that super easy.
There are probably better tabletops out there, but for free I don't know that I'd turn my nose up at Open quite so fast. ~ Pitch

A few times a week - maybe a bit more if in combat, but can work with most schedules.
And OpenRPG was recommended by several people, but if I didn't know someone who used it a lot, I think it would drive me nuts - I played with it for a week or so, back a year or so. And I just couldn't understand it enough to use it. Will check out MapTools. |

I've played in games that use both programs. Both are workable. That said, Maptools is currently less buggy, and more user friendly. The types of things
you can do on an advance level vary slightly from program to program, but neither really has an edge.

Huh, just went and looked at maptool's website - I didn't realize there were other X-tools running now. Definitely changes the conversation, I take
back my recommendation of Open and change my response to "huhduuuhhrrrrrr, I dunno."

I was a loyal user of OpenRPG for the longest time, as Maptool - while having an amazing battlemap - lagged behind Open immensely in every other way but
stability. Now in recent months, MapTool has made some great leaps with its chat and RP tools, and you tack everything onto the fact that its simply far more
stable, and I say Maptool wins.
Maptool definitely has a steeper learning curve, at least for the DM (player side really isn't terribly complicated), but only if you wish to use some of the more advanced features. If all you're wanting is a map, some tokens and a chat function, then Maptool is very simple. |

For those still interested - the game is up to 17 players at the moment, and growing.
