Any chance that we might hope for a Ptolus expansion on the fabled Jewels of Parnaith?
Pretty please?

Fourthed(?)! I would happily pay for something like this, even if I only ever use it in passing. Hell, I'd love just to -read- it

I hear it's supposed to be the "secret cow level" of Dungeon-A-Day... enter the secret code, it unlocks the JoP.

There is no cow level.

Can I sixth my own thread?*
If not, all my players want to sixth, seventh, eightth, ninth and tenth it. *That's the great thing about the English language - every now and then you sat or write something that it seems likely no one has ever said before. I'm guessing the combination of words in that sentence right there hasn't come up very often, if at all. In fact this phenomenon occurs more often when roleplaying that anything else. Last week, one of my players demanded, "We want this play rewritten to include a weasel!" I digress... |

Just when I thought I had the cows figured out, a green, named one ran up and kicked my butt.
Then the other black 'n whites swarmed me and my poor Barbarian couldn't jump away back to the gate. Moo !

I'd be happy with some maps and a little better explanation about traveling through the Jewels.

I'll add my voice, as it seems this sort of grass roots initiative led to the wondrous joy known as the Books of Experimental Might. Put me down for a PDF & a Print copy. Rory, who has just seen the joyful possibilities in the BOXMII feat "Opportunist" and is a happy DM... ps: .... moo! .... |

I'll take a print copy, please. And a pdf. And the deleted notes. And the pocket lint from the pants worn when designing the jewels.

In the absence of a published mod, has anyone attempted to write something themselves?
I plan on sending my epic level PCs through the jewels, so I am planning an adventure for Lv30 or 40 PCs. The adventure will involve them cleansing Jabel Shammar and then ascending through the jewels. I still have a long time to go before they get to this point in the story of our game. I do my best work when I need it for an upcomeing session, so what I have right now are just loose notes. I am going to copy/paste my ideas in here, maybe if there isn't going to be anything published we could at least hash out ideas to guide any DMs thinking of running the jewels in their game. so here is all I have so far. these are just notes made while reading through, these are the ideas that came to me. Has anyone else done that? I would like to read your ideas. - [ ] The Path to Enlightenment - [ ] 1 Orr: Jewel of Beginnings and Endings - [ ] The process of enlightenment involves the PCs all dying and coming back to life as with Raise Dead, they loose one HD but they gain the Celestial template with a level adjustment of +1 and no xp loss. - [ ] - [ ] 2 Ond: Jewel of the Physical - [ ] here they will learn that physical prowess is useful, but in the end it will be the power of mind that gains enlightenment. the moral here is to know when to use force and when to use your head. - [ ] they will try to reason with the elementals, who seem reasonable, in the end they will be forced to fight a long hard battle. in the end, when they have slain every foe and it appears to be working, it turns against them and they must collectively solve a riddle in order to move on. - [ ] 3 Imn: Jewel of Energy - [ ] This jewel requires study time, the PCs must learn from Znaam - [ ] Znaam is very intelligent but his servants are all mindless, having students again would be a delight to him. He knows why they are here and what they have come to learn, he will teach it to them, but slowly. - [ ] He will talk of mundane physics, eventually getting into relativity and string theory, this is when it becomes clear that he is stalling to keep them here. - [ ] ????????? - [ ] 4 Av: Jewel of the Mind - [ ] - [ ] 5 Ath: Jewel of Spirit - [ ] This has a connection to the Xixecal (A Galchutt) - [ ] 6 Unn: Jewel of Magic - [ ] this situation is ripe for a Yojimbo plot line - [ ] there are 9 wizards in 9 towers, they surround the tenth tower, that belonged to the old wizard who disappeared so long ago. - [ ] The first wizard they meet is a kindly old man, he should remind the players of Elminster and encourage them to feel comfortable with him. He tells them about an ancient evil wizard that lives in the big tower, he says that he and he and 8 other wizards built towers here as a sort of siege. the evil wizard has since corrupted most of the other wizards, with this treachery he doesn't know who to trust, but he figures some random adventurers who just sowed up are a more trustworthy than even his closest friends right now. - [ ] He wants the PCs to sneak into the tower, quietly, so as not to disturb the evil wizard. "He has a special gem in the highest level of his tower, with this gem I can free the minds of my friends and together we can defeat this wizard." - [ ] 7 Esh: Jewel of the Divine - [ ] At this point they all gain Divine Rank 0, if any PC already had a divine rank then it increases by 1. - [ ] they meet Praemus Okay, your turn! |

I almost forgot.
In my other Ptolus campaign the BBEG is a high level Mind Flayer and he has a cubic gate and one of the destinations of the cube is the Land of Ond. What I wrote up for this campaign is a bit different than what is presented in the book. This is intended as an interesting demiplane for the PCs to go to, almost as a vacation. If they are snoopy they might figure out that there is more than meets the eye, and that could launch a Jewels of Parnaith campaign. Otherwise it's just a cool magic item. - [ ] The Land of Ond (The first Jewel of Parnaith) - [ ] The cube always brings you to the life side of the world. This town was destroyed by Ghul, but they have rebuilt, their leader turned evil, but they live on. There is an even mix of Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Hobbit and Litorian here, all living in perfect harmony. This place is like heaven, most people would never want to leave. - [ ] This town is called Eloi. - [ ] There seems to be a large population of former adventurers, people who found there way here one way or another and never wanted to leave. This is their only source of new blood, people born here age slowly and cannot have children. - [ ] They do not share their history, in fact they do not even keep their history here, it's on the other side of the island. - [ ] The world is shaped like a coin, with a light side and a dark side. The two sides are separated by a mountain range but they are connected by a single river that runs around the world. There is a tall tower at the center of the island on both sides. - [ ] one could begin a quest to ascend the seven jewels, it would begin here - [ ] take the boat around, brave the rapids, enter the tower from the dungeon levels, find the stairs and fight all the way up top the top of the tower. in the final room the PCs must face themselves, same stats, same spells even. In fact when their double casts a spell they loose it from their spell list. When they kill their double they suddenly realize that all the damage they dealt was dealt to them, they die. - [ ] PCs who die should be allowed to think they are dead for a time, until the encounter is done. Their still living companions see their corpse disappear. - [ ] when the battle is done those who died find themselves in a massive cavern, the only clue to this being a nearby stalagmite. They have gained the Celestial Template. |

Good stuff, Mike!
Monte, I want this, and I will buy it in both print and PDF. And you know, if it were to come out in the next month or so, that would be just great! |

Heck yeah. Otherwise I might have to throw The Man-eating Cow at my players. Spoon!
(that was one of the secret cows of 3rd Edition, right?) Anyway, I will purchase a JoP thing (or two) from Monte. |

Ummmm.... I want the Jewels, too - but let's be honest - if Monte publishes pretty much anything to expand Ptolus, we are gonna buy it!!!
Not trying to dampen the fervor - I am most def onboard for this, just being honest - and saying YAY to Monte making a return to gaming. |

The point is, we want this more than we want most anything else Ptolus-related.
Though a nice adventure set in the Shadow of Ptolus would also get Tarondor's "buy-reflex" going. |

I want anything Ptolus. But the Jewels of Parnaith would be uber cool and very useful.

I believe I have re-read the Ptolus journals more than thrice just piecing together the 'Jewels' storyline. I find it particularly rich in awesome-ness
because I know that I could never have come up with an idea that epic and cool.
With 4e tweaking the realm of the Shadowfell, I would also find a Shadow of Ptolus adventure a must-buy. (Note: give self 2 extra geek points for admitting that I have re-read someone else's campaign journal. Sheesh.) |
