I think Pushing Daisies is one of the greatest shows ever to come out on network television. Knight Rider survives, 90210 survives, Private Practice survives, but this dies? I went from loving Heroes to hating it in nothing flat, but maybe I'll give it another try for the episodes Fuller has a hand in. I'm still out on that decision.

In a way, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. OK, that's cynical. Frankly, I think that the current networks currently underrate (perhaps intentionally) people watching shows on line or on DVR. Smart people shows seem to suffer because of this.

(Is it a serial? Is it a comedy? Wait, it's a serial comedy??) My understanding is that this show was extremely expensive to produce due to all the visual effects, so despite the Emmy nods and critical acclaim, the knives were out for this one. -Thrommel, who is skeptical it can be saved, but then again look what happened with Jericho.

Then sometimes I'd watch again on abc.com. I've heard some other reasons, but the episodes being too expensive is as good as any. Another I've heard is the Pushing Daisies audience doesn't watch Dirty Sexy Money and Private Practice. And vice versa where the Private Practice/Dirty Sexy Money audience doesn't watch Pushing Daisies. Oh well, I guess. The DVDs will just have to go on my shelf next to Firefly and Freaks and Geeks.

Personally though, about three seasons is all I want of a TV show. After that, it starts getting repetitive. I think that's going to be especially true with Daisies. The premise is neat and interesting now, but once it turns into just a comedy-mystery it will get very old, very fast.

I love to watch it for ten minutes or so, but it does not keep me watching longer, let alone, actively following the series.

They're right to cancel smartly written, clever series that aren't full of overwrought drama based on how screwed up the main characters' lives are. Don't hate the playa, hate the GaMe!

I'll just watch what I want from food network, sci-fi (when it rarely happens), discovery and history channel. Thing is, I fund quite a bit of their activities. You wait. It's a losing proposition for them. A la carte television in general is already here. It's called the internet. Imagine the culture we would live in now if, instead of a dead corpse on an instrument of torture, our signifier was a child staring in wonder at the stars.

Smart people shows seem to suffer because of this." CJM: "It's called the internet." Smart people simply have more ways to view the shows they want to watch. Further, smart people are annoyed by time wasted by advertisements like commercials, and don't really want to be advertised to in the first place. IMO, watching shows in a weekly/timeslot style of format is SO not for me (read: antiquated), and I generally only allow 2-4 shows to be watched by me in that way. Sadly Pushing Daisies is one such show that I'd much rather watch on DVD when I have the full season. The whole system needs an overhaul.
