The other day he came up with a concept for a drow rogue character. The things is, the party (which he has yet to join) are exploring the prison area. I asked him to come up with his own idea as to how his character comes to be in the region of dungeons behind the prison. (If he couldn't come up with one himself, I had several fallback options, but I wanted to see how he did on his own).
He returned, all excited by his 'renegade drow' idea
. I chose
not to dampen his ardor by explaining this was a bit of a cliche, and accepted his proposal. But now I am concerned that I have boxed myself into a corner:
Drow are illegal on the streets of Ptolus, so how can he feasibly play this character when the party return to the surface?
What is more: how can I convince the rest of the party (which consists of two elves and a half-elf!) to accept him (or her)?
I intend for drow to play a major part in the rest of the campaign - starting with Shilukar and building up to the Queen of Lies. What can I do to avoid diluting the 'all drow are evil' idea, if I have a drow character involved at such an early stage?
I know I have made a bit of a rod for my own back here, so any advice would be greatly appreciated, particularly with regard to the issue of how to integrate him into the surface world (if such a thing is even possible...).

That's an interesting story by itself...two drow parents mysteriously
give birth to a normal elf!
