It involved invading a thieves guild. When all was said and done, the thieves were captured or killed and the party went searching for treasure. They had recently purchased a house where they stay as a base of operations. They looted the thieves kitchen: spices, pots and pans, etc., to furnish their own woeful kitchen. The housekeeper was pleasantly surprised. Anyone else have stories of unusual things to loot? Pippin: Are we lost? Merry: No Pippin: I think we are Merry: Shh. Gandalf's thinkin' Pippin: Merry? They took it home as a momento. They were planning to give it to their favorite tavern, hoping to incite a name change and of course the right to use those barrel sized tankards

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Kobold Eggs - the party effectively committed genocide on a tribe of Desert kobolds, and felt terrible about it afterwards. Initially they had big plans to nurse the eggs and raise the kobolds to be good, but a few sessions later they'd forgotten about it and I just ruled that the eggs had died in the cold of their Bag of Holding. It would have been somewhat interesting to run, but the campaign was pretty swamped with followers and tagalongs anyway by this point; three of the characters had Animal companions/familiars, and the other had the Leadership feat.

He had tracked us down to give us some vital piece of information before passing away and turning to dust - leaving nothing behind but the suit he was wearing. Cletus* picked up the suit, dusted it off, folded it up, and took it home, much to the amusement of the GM... I've had players loot alcoholic beverages (and things that could pass as such) from encounters. Although technically not 'strange', I've also had players keep the (non-magical) jewelry of their foes instead of selling it (the strangest part being that it's usually one of the two biggest power gamers who does it). *Not a 'slack jawed yokel', in fact the character had a moneyed background - he just subscribed to the 'waste not, want not' philosophy.

The group had been given some magical canisters that when you pointed them at something and took the top off, the item would get sucked in and stored in suspended animation. We had them so we could safely transport our characters' horses while we were on the submarine. Bunko wasn't the sharpest nail in the workshed by any stretch of imagination, but when we got to where we were going and let the horse back out, he took a spare canister and pointed at the submarine. "POOF!" Sub-in-a-can! He carted that thing around for ages before "throwing" the sub at a super hag he was fighting that he could seem to damage. During this search, the half-orc decided to take her pants. Why? Don't know. Needless to say, we were all very disturbed, and the DM seemed pretty put out for some reason. The next time we were in town, we took loot that we thought could be magical to be analyzed. Because he had so much money to waste, the half-orc decided to have the pants analyzed, too. Turns out they were pants of fire protection. There is no emotion; there is peace. There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no passion; there is serenity. There is no chaos; there is harmony. There is no death; there is the Force.

I once had a group with two wizards who would pluck out the eyes of every foe the met. When asked why, spell casting materials was the reason given.

The character (appropriately named Rath) had a burning hatred for goblinoids and took the head of every single goblin they killed. This included the innocent women/children of the goblin town he destroyed... Another less strange one is skins off of animals. Though, the character in question was a trapper, so I suppose that makes sense. The Journal of Xanatos Valarian: The Grey Elf Warblade, Tactician, Fugitive, and possibly werewolf.

If I can draw an analogy, picture a guy going into a modern pawn shop with a cardboard box full of various pistols, ammunition, and holsters...every three weeks. Maybe not so weird, but they did have each of them magically preserved and put up on the walls of their "Adventurer's Limited" headquarters. 2 - Back in 2e, the party wizard researched an improved item spell, that could preserve as a fabric patch just about any item. At some point (I don't remember the details), he turned a whale carcass into a piece of fabric. The party later used it during negotiations with a lizard man tribe. You help us, we'll provide you with food for a year. Their back-up plan was to fling the whale patch over the tribe and dispel the item spell, thus dropping the whale on the tribe. That would have been cool too.

Sadly, there is at least one monster that has gems in it's gullet. Even sadder, that was "mysteriously" the only monster my players ever decided to gut...

They had their own dungeon that they were refurbishing and liked the bronze ones off of a dungeon that I ran them through later. She also kept the weapon of the last person she killed and discarded the previous one. We spent a lot of time looking up weapon damage, etc. Pippin: Are we lost? There was no-one there at night so we had time to search around and we made off with a bunch of 'loot' which, from what I remember, included a left shoe, a half full bottle of orange squash, a fridge (even though we had no electricity in our lovely sewer hide-out) and a signed photo of John Leslie. The most surprising thing is that we were all extremely pleased with this haul, which I guess gives you an idea of how poorly things were going for us at the time. Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Just an hour or so ago the players in my Ptolus campaign looted something completely unexpected: a warforged straight from the creation forge. They'd been hired to shut down the creation forges to stop the 'forged being sold as weapons to an unknown bidder, and infiltrated the factory just as one was being bound with a soul. While one player worked on disabling the power source, the other snuck up near the creation forge, and as soon as the newly "born" warforged sprung to sentience, tossed him in a Bag of Holding. The power cut, they detonated a few powder bombs, quaffed potions of invisibility, and escaped in the ensuing chaos.
