Some of my players have asked for "interesting fights". To me, combat is a plot device and not something I give a whole lot of thought; When assassins attack, I'm much more interested in "Why" than "How".
But perhaps I should give the how some thought. How do I make a fight interesting? How do I make the enemies interesting to fight, how do I add spice to the environment, and how should I plan combat beforehand?
How do I make fighting more fun?
Also - how much is necessary to flesh out in the enemies, statswise?
And finally - do you consider the infamous Random Encounters to be a fun addition to a game? If so, how should I spend some thought on inventing interesting random encounters, or just go with an interesting monster straight out of the book?
