I'm coming more from the angle of card/board games, but I guess it could also apply to RPGs if you're the type who's interested in lots of
different game systems.

The potential of playing the game could be for any reason. Having enough players, length of play, learning curve for new players, etc.

BTW, if you're one of those fortunate people whose most-wanted game is also the game they'd most likely end up playing, congratulations.

If I based all my game purchases/acquisitions on whether or not I'd actually play them for sure, I'd have a lot fewer games.

One reason I like games is that they are "potential fun" in a box. Even if I never play it, the potential fun is still there.

I just want to get Dominion. I've played it once and was hooked. It was easy to learn and had enough options to play it quite often that it won't get

I own Descent, which is great . . . but it is a lot of setup, does have a lot of rules, and, for me, requires a quorum of players that would otherwise play
D&D. I am not a fan of giant-setup games, no matter what the game reviews say.

If I'm not going to sit down to a D&D (or similar RPG) game, then I want a game with simple rules that is easy to learn and setup, like Carcasonne,
Tigris and Euphrates, Lost Cities, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, or Pandemic.

The games I like are mostly ones with lots of rules and components and usually take a long time to setup/play. Heroscape, Battlelore, Arkham Horror, games
like that. However, I hardly ever play them because lack of time or willing participants who are patient enough to go over all the rules. As a sidebar, if
someone has found a way to combat the "Just show me how to play as we go along" pitfall that tends to get my freinds mad when I reveal a rule that
conflicts with what they...
